My Wilson research really began some 20 years ago when my maternal grandmother was still alive.   She so wanted to know about the grandfather she never knew.  He died when her mother was a child.  My grandmother really couldn't give me much information.  She had a scrape of paper that had the name James P. Wilson on it.  It was for him to obtain a wooden leg after the civil war.  She thought he was her grandfather.  She did not even know where he had lived.   I was able to find her grandmother's given name of Savilla from census records in Texas Co, MO.  My grandmother did remember that her grandmother had remarried  to a McDonald.  At that time I didn't find much more.  Other family members were not interested in the family history.

A few years later my grandmother suffered a stroke.  As my Aunts and Mother took turns caring for her several took an interest in the family history and had my grandmother label as many of the old family photos as she had memory of.    She is gone now, but her memory will always be with me.

So I can say that the Wilson's got me started in genealogy.   They have been a challenge.  James P. ended up being a great uncle to my grandmother.  Her grandfather was John T. Wilson.  Her mother was less than three years old when he died.  I have found a probate index that starts in 1884.  Her mother was born in 1881.   They were in Texas Co, MO.  Several of her uncles are buried there, as well as her grandmother, and her great grandfather.   I have since found John T.'s parents and after much digging through the records in Marshall, Williamson, and Bedford County Tennessee have managed to link my Wilsons' to the Revolutionary Wilson family of Robert and Eleanor Wilson.
