We had been told that John had drowned while being pursued by 'revenuers'.  I didn't think that was a possibility, given the time frame of his death.  I found an oath of office given by John for justice of the peace in the township where he lived, Upton.  The many travels in the area where Upton was leads me to believe he was chasing some one, rather than being chased.  There are many creeks and bluffs in the area and it would have been easy for a house to loose it's footing or get caught in water shed run offs.

Guardianship records found in the Deed records that listed the names of the children.
